We're locals who believe in Wainuiomata.

We believe that together we can increase awareness of Wainuiomata as an attractive and affordable lifestyle choice, connect all communities to a vibrant town centre, foster our arts and culture and develop even more as a destination.

As a group of Wainuiomata locals we submitted an initial development plan concept to Hutt City Council in response to major goals in the city’s Urban Growth Strategy and the initiatives detailed for Wainuiomata.

Funding for a Wainuiomata Development Plan was approved by City Development Committee on 19 August 2014 and a formal steering group was set up.

We’ve created this vision and emerging plan guided by contributions from you at a public workshop, expo displays, conversations on Facebook, plus online and written feedback.

Last year 80 Wainuiomata locals attended a community workshop and shared what they love about Wainuiomata and what can be made better in the future. Urban planning specialists, Boffa Miskell, facilitated the workshop and captured ideas and aspirations for Wainuiomata in 2035.

Using that feedback, a public expo was held at the Wainuiomata Library that included what’s loved about Wainuiomata, the challenges, a collective vision and ideas for future projects in Wainuiomata.  Responses to the expo are being used to develop concepts, initiatives and ideas that will be included in our emerging plan.

We love your pride and how we’re all keen to see Wainuiomata get ahead. We’ve heard many more aspirations for the community – and although not directly part of this plan, we will share them with the right people and organisations including the community board: our local champions for a strong community.
